About the 2027 Judging Panel
Our independent panel of expert judges is drawn from across the industry, covering a very diverse cross-section of experience. Each Decarbonising Transport Awards Judge is carefully selected to ensure that the judging panel is as diverse as possible.
The judges are:

Saira Ali
President, Landscape Institute and Team Leader, Landscape Design & Conservation, Bradford Council
“Decarbonising transport is about so much more than reducing carbon emissions. It is about reimagining how we move through and experience our places, creating healthier communities, cleaner air and streets where people and nature can thrive together.
As a landscape architect, I believe the places we create between A and B matter just as much as the journey itself. By putting people, place and nature at the heart of transport planning and design, we can tackle the climate emergency while creating places that are fairer, greener and better for everyone.
I’m delighted to be joining the judging panel for the Decarbonising Transport Awards 2027. I’m excited to celebrate the people, partnerships and innovations turning ambition into action, and to shine a light on the inspiring work that can be shared, scaled and delivered across the country. We have an opportunity not just to decarbonise transport, but to transform places and improve lives.”

Robert Davis
Head of Sustainable Travel, Trueform
“Decarbonising transport isn’t just an environmental priority, it’s a social one. Public transport plays a vital role in this transition, offering the most efficient pathway to reducing emissions at scale and creating cleaner, more accessible cities. For over a decade at Trueform, I’ve focused on delivering infrastructure that connects people and places while supporting cleaner air, reduced congestion, and healthier communities. I’m honoured to join the judging panel and help showcase the innovations driving meaningful decarbonisation across our industry and shaping a more sustainable future for all.”

Brian Deegan
Director of Inspections, Active Travel England
“As we do a just transition into the second year of these awards I want to remind everyone that we are all on this mission together. We need to find innovative, scalable solutions that we can deliver fast. These awards speed up progress towards decarbonisation and so please share your best ideas so we can crack on.”

Fred Ewing
Head of Transportation and Infrastructure, Meridien Business Support
“With the amount of innovation that we are seeing through the transport sector specifically within the decarbonisation space, it’s a truly exciting time to see how our industry can contribute to our march towards Net-Zero. In my roles at Tessera Advisory and Meridian, I look forward to seeing the important steps being made to re-enforce decarbonisation as front and central in how our transport systems continue to evolve. The nominees and winners of these awards will demonstrate just that and good luck to all those that enter.”

Alistair Kirkbride
Director, Low Carbon Destinations
"The Landor LINKS Decarbonising Transport Awards acknowledge the variety of ways that transport decarbonisation is being tackled across the UK. Many transport decarbonisation initiatives are showcases of better services, places, lifestyles and prosperity, so I am really pleased to be able to be a part of acknowledging the commitment and dedication of those who are making this happen."

Cllr Clyde Loakes MBE
Winner- 'Best Leadership in Local Government Award'
Decarbonising Transport Awards 2026
"It's an honour and privilege to be asked to join the judging panel of the prestigious 'Decarbonising Transport Awards' 2027.
As a very humbled winner in the inaugural 2026 ‘Decarbonising Transport Awards’, I know there is so much that we can and need to do to speed up the decarbonising of all our transport options, choices, alongside the delivery of the infrastructure to unlock that potential and pace.
These awards highlight the very best schemes, organisations, teams, and individuals across the UK creating that pace and delivering. This is an opportunity to celebrate, champion and showcase the very best and to demonstrate the 'art of the possible' and I can't wait to get stuck in- judging!"

Glenn Lyons

"I never cease to be amazed, impressed and inspired by the incredible work being undertaken to decarbonise the transport sector. I am delighted to have the opportunity, as a judge, to review a range of outstanding projects that showcase the passion, innovation and commitment of those working in this field. The real challenge will be deciding on a winner."

Ben Plowden
Chief Executive, Campaign for Better Transport
"This summer’s record-breaking temperatures in the UK and across the world have reinforced the urgency of the need to “defossilise” transport, now the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the economy. I’m proud to support these awards because they celebrate the fact that we know what to do and how to do it - we just need to turn this best practice into business as usual."

Simon Shapcott
Net Zero Director for Transportation, AtkinsRéalis
"Decarbonisation and resilience are two sides of the same coin, and they have mutual solutions, not least those that are nature based. It’s not just about reducing emissions in infrastructure and operations, it’s about redesigning infrastructure to withstand the climate of tomorrow. That means understanding climate risks, smarter planning, adapting design and adopting new materials, while ensuring transport systems remain safe, reliable and can recover quickly when extreme weather events do occur."

Anne Snelson
Certified Carbon Literacy Project Trainer, Lead With Sustainability
"I love being a part of the Decarbonising Transport Awards. What better way to learn about, and celebrate, all the brilliant, innovative projects that are cutting emissions across every mode of transport and encourage others to do likewise? A wonderful initiative set up by Landor Links and I’m so looking forward to being part of it again."

Catriona Swanson
Strategic Lead - Sustainable Transport, Manchester City Council
"After a summer marked by devastating wildfires, floods and extreme weather events, the urgency of decarbonising transport has never been clearer. I’m proud to serve as a judge for these awards because they celebrate the innovators, leaders and partnerships delivering real change on the ground. Just as importantly, they help spread good practice across the sector, giving others the confidence and evidence to act. At a time when many of us can feel overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge, these awards remind us that progress is possible, momentum is building, and that together we can accelerate the transition to a cleaner, healthier and more resilient future."

Tom Van Vuren
Visiting Professor,
Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds
""Transport decarbonisation is hard – if it was easy we would have progressed further, faster (at least that’s what I hope). Highlighting where colleagues have done amazing things, identifying innovations that can be applied elsewhere, celebrating successes by teams and individuals - they help in getting to that net zero goal. As a transport modeller and analyst I always look for the evidence – these awards should provide that with spades."
